Corrupting Our Children

by Michael Gregory Steele and Herman B. Hayes

I recently read an article on a Focus on the Family site that truly upset me. In it a concerned mother finds that her son's school library is stocked with obscene titles like "Doing It" and "Rainbow Boys."

Thankfully she was able to get these books taken out of regular circulation and undoubtedly saved the souls of countless children.

We as parents must too demand that objectionable books like these be removed from the library shelves. If we don't make the effort to purify these school libraries then there's no limit to the sort of depravity that could be made available to our children. If you don't do your parental duty and ensure that each book extols Christian values then don't be surprised if your son or daughter comes home with one of the following books:
  • The Homosexual Conversion Guide: From Straight to Gay in 30 Days
  • Harry Potter and the Dark Prince
  • Start Your Own Cult: And 99 Other Fun Ideas for Kids
  • Evolution: Science without God
  • The Little Gay Angel
  • The Karma Sutra: Preteen Edition
  • Babar's Elephant Orgy
  • The Cambridge Companion to Satan
  • How to be Bigger, Better and Run Faster than Jesus Christ
  • Why Gay Means Happy and Straight Means Unbearably Miserable
The above mentioned mother also presented the school board with 70 more titles she found objectionable. This time though, the school board did not "have the time."

Although this woman ultimately failed to protect her child, there is something we can learn from her. She was persistent enough to check every single book in that library and I urge every parent reading this to do the same. Do it for the children.

DOes that include Playboy? Because they have great articles and it's on the top shelf away from short kids?

the bastard: Playboy in a school library? You must be one of those liberal educators.

Of course you'd say that this pornographic magazine is "educational." I'm sure you could find redeeming qualities in anything that leads a student away from God.

wichitajack: Given the fact that our children are not allowed to even pray in school we cannot afford to fail our children like this mother did.

After several obscene books from the library at Michael Jr.'s school mysteriously disappeared I was there to offer godly alternatives written by Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh from my personal library. Just a suggestion.

americastrongandproud: This is the kind of comment I love to see. No disagreement just a simple "Amen." Certain liberal instigators could learn a lot from you.

Oh come on, micheal, you gotta admit playboy is a great educational magazine! I think it beats the bible any day! it teaches about sex, and it is also very entertaining. I'm sure you read it every once in a while.

the bastard: Oh, that old line: "I read Playboy for the articles." Do you ever notice though that when you read those clever articles written by clever New York liberals that it eventually ends in a masturbatory session that angers and saddens the Almighty?

Is this because you're being educated? No, it's because you're being corrupted by the less than clever pornography contained within.

This is exactly why we need a voucher program-so we can avoid sending kids to these carnal houses of liberal depravity sometimes called "public schools." Enough is enough already.

So stealing is ok, as long as it's something you find objectionable?

While I certainly monitor closely what my son is exposed to and influenced by, be it TV, books, or Radio, I'd never advocate "mysterious disappearance" of books. I can't see how breaking a Commandment is justifiable. Under any circumstances.

red clover: Firstly, I never said that anyone should steal, I only strongly implied it.

Secondly, of course it's ok to steal if you replace it with something of equal value. Replacing a copy of "Rainbow boys" with a copy of Dr. James Dobson's "The Strong Willed Child" is certainly acceptable.

Uh huh.. I'm sorry maybe my bible doesn't have the same chapter "times when you can ignore/make exceptions to the Ten Commandments" that yours seems to.

So then would it be ok for me to sleep with my neighbor’s husband.. as long as I gave her permission to sleep with mine?

I think if you're going to use concern for American Values as your basis then saying things like "Secondly, of course it's ok to steal if you replace it with something of equal value." is very poor reflection on what exactly your values are.

Advocate protest, writing/complaining to officials, prayer, etc.. Don't advocate breaking of one of the Ten Commandments.

I’m not saying I'm a good Christian.. shoot for that matter I'm not even saying I'm Christian at all.. But if those are the values you support you shouldn’t pick and choose when it's convenient to do so.

"I’m not saying I'm a good Christian.. shoot for that matter I'm not even saying I'm Christian at all.."

This simple statement discounts everything you've said or will say. Thanks for saving me the trouble of having to address every single point you try to make. Because the day I start listening to the arguments of a godless unbelievers is the day that I start voting Democrat.

Ahh... so the part about educating and ministering to others is also optional recommendation in the bible?

Even Christ took the time to explain himself and his stance to people, both believers and non-believers. He did so logically, patiently, using parables when needed.

As one with an honest interest in Christianity your responses worry me. I can only hope not all Christians are so .. hateful.

I have addressed my questions respectfully and with genuine curiosity. And you have responded in a way that has me very confused.

So much for learning, understanding, much less being influenced by your point of view.

And oh no! not... Harry "Devil's Nursemaid" Potter!

You might have a tough time convincing millions of Christians that the childrens' book they just bought is corrupting their seed.

Now look -

I was getting all ready to pack my bags and move to Kuala Lumpur until I found out 1) The entire city is on a perpetual "boil water advistory" and 2) you can't even borrow something like "Malcolm X" from the library there, to say nothing of the stuff you are convinced is going to sway your children into "getting mixed up" with people you'd just as soon not.

Despite many opinions to the contrary, the Public Library is the closest thing we have to a national temple in the United States. This country, above all else, was founded up on the notion that no idea (short perhaps of certain ones involving immediate assasinations like certain people we know advocate) is so dangerous in and of itself that it merits censorship.

I to was appaled when I looked into the books in my High School Library. There was "A Wrinkle in Time" which makes the case for moral ambiguity between good and evil. Then on my Summer Reading List I had to read Candide by Voltaire. I was stunned. How could I a good God Fearing Christian Young Adult be forced to read such a filthy book by my liberal educators. I of course filed numerous complaints, however I fear they have fallen on deaf ears.

I of course burned the offending manuscript and went to my pastor and asked him what I should do. The man had the gall to tell me that the book "wasn't that bad." How could a God-Less atheist heathen "book" be "not that bad." I was physically ill. Perhaps I should switch churches, I have long suspected that my pastor harbored at least some liberal tendencies.

What should I do Mr. Steele?

big killa: The "hardness" of this pornography (or your member for that matter) is not the issue here. This is about liberals like "the bastard" trying to thrust this smut upon our children.

Also, if you think Harry Potter is harmless, perhaps you should read this article written by Herman.

the private intellectual: It would seem that you are keeping any semblance of intelligence private from the readers of your comment, making your name very apt.

Second you claim there are gay scenes in the Bible? I think you are confusing your weekly backroom video rentals with the Bible. Honest mistake if you're an idiot.

axinar: judging from the shear amount of words written by you here I would almost think that I asked you to guest post. But I certainly did not.

As far as public libraries go, they are supposed to serve the public not corrupt it. That's why it's my duty as a moral leader to decide which books I feel should do not serve the public interest and try to have them banned.

And if I could have movies banned, this "Delta Force" movie you mentioned would be one of the first on the list.

giovanni: You really have to be careful, there are certain non-evangelical religions that claim to follow the teaching of Jesus Christ but are in fact liberal in practice (I'm looking your way, you Quaker freaks). This seems to be the case for you.

I would recommend you switch to a Christian denomination that's more in line with the true teachings of Christ.

A good test would be to ask a current member if they allow homosexuals to join their Church. If this question is met with either a hearty laugh or an angry stare then this could be the brand of Christianity for you.

Corpodibacco: It makes sense that someone living in a country that houses the bastion of false Christianity doesn't understand what Michael is teaching at this site. While Michael and Herman are the absolute authorities on how God wants us to obey his word, it wouldn't hurt if you took a primer in true Christianity from some other sources that should be readily available to you:

http://www.patrobertson.com/
http://www.falwell.com/

After you spend about a year getting acquainted with the basics of true Christianity then come back and get an advanced course here. Otherwise, you're just going to drag the rest of us down while our teachers have to explain every little thing to you.

May God bless you my little pasta eating heathen.

Thank you for your advice Mr. Steele. Yes, sadly I am now in search of a new church. Though I have a friend who belongs to an Evangelical church not to far from me. Though I could not attend the service today as he failed to give me directions, he just said it was "near here." Wherever that may be. I hope this sabotage was not intentional.

I recently came across an advertisement fr a Church that REALLY hates those God-less sodomites. At the following web address.
http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20050828/ap_on_re_us/soldier_funeral_protests

I think that their philosophy is correct and I am considering asking them to let me found a branch of their church here.

You sir, I believe would be much more at home in Kuala Lumpur, or perhaps Iran.

An attitude such as yours is unbecomming to someone who claims to be an advocate of "American Values".

In fact, I strongly suggest you consider changing the name of this blog as you do not represent the values of any America that I know anything about.

Moral of the story - home school your kids or send them to a Christian school - surely that's a no-brainer? Christian parents have an obligation and a huge responsiblity in ensuring their children receive the correct education. It amazes me when parents send their children to Government schools and then complain about them being taught evolution and homosexuality. If sacrifices have to be made to home school or send your Children to a Christian school, then do it - we did. Also, children should learn about God and the Bible at HOME.
